There is no place like home when your not feeling well, which is how I am feeling today (all say ahhh). The flu bug must have silently crept into my home earlier in the week and made itself at home in my house. How dare it !
Flu Bug – This Is Not Your Home
OK, I know it entered my home silently and without me seeing, but I’m now (or at least when I feel a bit better) going to make sure it doesn’t want to stay around in my home.
I’m starting off with fresh airi n my home – opening my windows to entice that flu bug outside, while I keep warm wrapped in my rug. Next point of attack is to make my home smell like a hospital, not my favourite fragrance I’ll admit, but neither is it that of the flu bug. Antiseptic, disinfectant you name it and I’ll try it. Anything to have my bug free home back.
Getting Better At Home
What to do now that it has wheedled it’s way into my home univited ? First and most importantly take care of myself. To me that means hving lots of nice warm honey and lemon drinks, eating fresh fruit and vegetables (I like my veggies in soup) and getting plenty of rest.
Now there are some advantages, like getting to catch up on that long list of books to read, getting out of washing the dishes and cutting my carbon footprint by being at home and not driving around in my car so much, but I must admit I definately would rather not have the flu.
Next time you drop by I’ll be feeling much better and my home will be smelling of roses rather than antiseptic !

Is your home all heart ?
You know what I mean. That feeling you get when you step inside a house and you immediately feel at home. You may know the occupants well or maybe it’s your first visit to this home, but you instantly get that sense of peace, love and all that stuff !
There’s nothing better as it makes you feel very comfortable and “at home” in these surroundings. You feel welcomed, relaxed and are able to “be yourself”.
Decorating Your Home With Heart
In part, this feeling is aroused by the people whose home it is, and part from the way the home has been decorated.
It’s not so much about the style of the home decor, and by that I mean whether it’s been decorated in the vein of rustic, modern or art deco. For me, it’s that within the style there has been created a comfortable ambiance within the home.
Items such as family photos, interesting furniture pieces well placed, well thought out colour schemes all contribute to a home filled with heart.

It’s winter – wet – not white !
Here in Perth, where our winters are wet rather than white, I want my home to be a place of comfort and warmth.
Just by using the right colours and fabric textures your home can feel warm.
Rugs
Starting from the floor up there’s nothing like a lovely wool rug to add warmth to your home and to push your toes into… ah bliss. If my feet are warm then I’m happy.
And haven’t rug designs come a long way ? If you want a piece of art for your home that is somewhat different some of them are quite works of art, literally, hanging on the wall rather than being walked all over. Wherever they are placed, they are a nice practical and cosmetic touch to the home.
Throws
Moving on up, who doesn’t like to be wrapped in warmth ? Not that we can wrap our home in a rug to keep it warm, although I’m imagining that could look quite cute.
Throw rugs or blankets are a great inexpensive way to keep warm and when your not wrapped in it they are a great accessory to decorate your home. Draped over a sofa or bed they add texture and colour to your home decor.

Welcome, to my home sweet home.
And a lovely warm home it is tonight, with my reverse cycle airconditioner keeping me very comfortable. With Perth, Western Australia currently experiencing lower than average temperatures, home heating is a high priority right now.
Which type of heating is for you ?
Does your home have a wood fire because you love to see the logs burning and it gives your home a cosy look ? Or do you prefer instant heat at the flick of a switch, whether it’s gas or electric ? With the choices we have in home heating today there’s a solution for all types of buildings and rooms, and that includes outdoor areas.
